Future Fest will Explore Scenarios & What They Mean for Transportation in 2045

Travel has been curtailed these days, but that won’t stop MetroPlan Orlando from offering a virtual trip through time to consider what Central Florida may be like 25 years from now — and how to get ready.
Community outreach for the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) continues with a national expert in future technology acting as the guide for our next webinar, Future Fest, which takes place at 5 p.m. on Sept. 1.
You can find out details and register, free of charge, for the webinar here.
The keynote speaker for Future Fest will be Shailen Bhatt, President and CEO of ITS America, based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Bhatt will help us see how technology is poised to change U.S. transportation, along with many other aspects of our lives in the year 2045. We will analyze four distinct scenarios that deal with current trends, technology, climate, and what we call disruption dilemmas – all part of the 2045 Plan.
We’ll also have a panel of community leaders, who will offer perspectives on how Central Florida can prepare for whatever lies ahead. Attendees will share ideas on how we can work toward our regional goals and, despite the uncertainties, develop the transportation system we need for the year 2045.
Mr. Bhatt is passionate about transportation technology’s potential to reduce risks on our roads and save lives. He has been a leading voice for intelligent transportation technologies throughout the U.S. and has testified before Congress about positive safety impacts of connected and automated vehicles. His professional background includes work with the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, as well as leading roles in state transportation agencies in Colorado and Delaware. ITS America is a national organization that advances the research and deployment of intelligent transportation technologies to save lives, improve mobility, promote sustainability, and increase efficiency.
Safety, preparing for technology shifts, and improving mobility for everyone are among the goals for Central Florida’s 2045 Plan, which will be considered for approval by the MetroPlan Orlando Board in December.
