The sixth webinar in Vision Zero Central Florida’s Safety Speaker Series, will look at how to use multimodal planning to prioritize safety over speed. Hear about a variety of strategies that have been employed in Florida and elsewhere to manage speeds.

Join us on Zoom from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Registration is available here: https://bit.ly/3YMLMWP

The Experts

During this webinar, MetroPlan Orlando staff will be joined by a panel of professionals:

Chelsea Favero, AICP, MPO Division Manager at Forward Pinellas, will share lessons learned from various initiatives to improve safety and mobility outcomes in Pinellas County. These include an outreach campaign to lower vehicle speeds and the impacts of the SunRunner rapid bus line on mobility options, operations, and safety.

Lori Trebitz, PE, Roadway Engineer Supervisor with FDOT District 5, will share outcomes and lessons learned from the Orange Blossom Trail Safety Project, which sought to improve pedestrian safety on one of Central Florida’s most dangerous corridors.

Fernando Navarette, Legislative Coordinator at LADOT, will share how the City of Los Angeles leveraged support from a broad coalition to pass legislation at the state level that facilitated lowering speeds, and how that success set the groundwork for additional legislation that allows the City to test speed safety cameras as a part of their coming Speed Safety Pilot

You’ll be encouraged to consider how these strategies may apply in your community. We will reserve time for questions and comments from attendees.

This webinar is eligible for one AICP CM credit. Event #9301488

About Getting to Zero

Vision Zero Central Florida is a coordinated effort led by MetroPlan Orlando, partnering with local jurisdictions, to provide comprehensive Vision Zero Safety Action Plans for our three-county region, as well as for each county and city. These plans lay out regional and local efforts to change road designs, educate and engage people, and work with law enforcement to save lives.

Setting zero as the goal for traffic deaths and serious injuries is ambitious, requiring a culture change and a shift in how we plan, operate, and use our transportation system. It represents a shared responsibility among all of us. We CAN save lives by working together.
