2050 Here We Come!

The 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) has been unanimously approved by our board! Every five years, we update the MTP to set the 25-year vision for the region’s transportation system. The 2050 Plan is a living document and will likely be amended several times as things change between now and 2030.

The MTP is vital to the future of our transportation system because projects must be included in it to receive federal and state funding. With over $35.4 billion in planned projects, the plan covers a wide range of topics, methodologies, processes, and findings.

Our community is a key part in shaping the MTP. We’re proud to share that throughout the drafting of the plan, we engaged with over 13,000 community members. Now the final plan is ready for community members to dig into.

We recommend taking a look at Chapter One to get an outline of the plan and a brief description of what each chapter entails. This will help you find what you’re most interested, some notable chapters are:

The MTP is one of the core plans MetroPlan is tasked to create, and all three plans connect to one another. Projects listed in the MTP get ranked and organized into a waiting list called the Prioritized Project List. When funding is available, a project moves into the five-year Transportation Improvement Program (aka “the Work Program”). Learn more in the video below.
