We’re so excited to share that MetroPlan Orlando’s Vision Zero Central Florida is receiving the American Planning Association (APA) Florida Award of Excellence in the Best Practices category! We will be presented with the award at APA Florida’s 2025 conference in September.
We are also proud of our partners, the City of Orlando and Orange County, who have also been recognized by APA Florida for their amazing work.
APA Florida is a professional organization that provides statewide leadership in the development of sustainable communities by advocating excellence in planning, providing professional development for its members, and working to protect and enhance the natural and built environments.
What is Vision Zero Central Florida?
Vision Zero Central Florida is a coordinated effort led by MetroPlan Orlando, partnering with local jurisdictions, to provide comprehensive Vision Zero Safety Action Plans for our three-county region, as well as for each city. These plans lay out efforts to change road designs, educate and engage people, and work with law enforcement to save lives.
Vision Zero Central Florida’s work was funded by a $3.79 million Safe Streets and Roads for All federal grant awarded to MetroPlan Orlando in 2023.
In November, we were notified that we received a second Safe Streets and Roads for All federal grant to continue our Vision Zero Central Florida work. The $2.12 million grant will be used to update the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan, as needed, continue safety-focused community outreach, update safety data, make improvements to the data hub site, and conduct safety road audits.
We can save lives by working together, and we’re excited to be recognized by APA Florida for this important effort to have zero traffic deaths and serious injuries in Central Florida by 2050. Learn more about Vision Zero here.
