Welcome to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan page, which is in the final phase of development. During the past year and a half, this page has reflected progress on the year 2050 transportation vision for Central Florida. The plan is now available for public comment; see below for details. The completed plan, along with public comments, will come before the MetroPlan Orlando Board for approval on Dec. 10, 2025.
WHAT IS AN MTP?
The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP or 2050 Plan) establishes the vision for the transportation system in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. This plan for the year 2050 identifies current and future transportation needs and establishes a cost feasible plan, a list of projects the region can afford. Projects must be included in the plan to receive federal and state funding. The plan is updated every five years to reflect the changing dynamics of the region.

INTERACTIVE TOOLS
The 2050 Metropolitan Plan (MTP) Multimodal Viewer is an interactive, web-based map tool designed to help users explore identified multimodal transportation needs across the region. These projects represent a compilation of transportation needs identified throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties. They were developed through a comprehensive planning process with input and collaboration from local transportation partners. The projects displayed in this dashboard are grouped into Needs Lists to make it easier to locate similar types of projects and to better understand their funding eligibility.

2050 WEBINAR SERIES FAQ
Leading up to the adoption of the 2050 MTP, MetroPlan Orlando hosted a series of three webinars to engage the community in discussions about important topics addressed by the draft plan.
The first, held July 24, explored projected trends across the region and examined how emerging technologies may reshape the transportation system. The second webinar in this series, held on Aug. 21, dug deeper into how transportation intersects with health, housing, and the environment. The final offering on Sept. 11, explored multimodal needs and how projects in the 2050 MTP are identified and incorporated into the plan.
Here we have compiled written responses for all the questions asked during the webinars.

ENGAGEMENT MATERIALS
Throughout the plan’s development, we have provided a variety of materials — printed and digital — to engage the public. Our outreach efforts were guided by the public participation plan adopted by the MetroPlan Orlando Board in 2024. A copy of the plan is available on the Public Participation Plan page.
We have more resources on our YouTube channel, including our 2050 Play Playlist. We also developed a short video to show the various ways we reached out to the public as the plan was developed. You can view it here.

MTP PROCESS RECAP
MetroPlan Orlando has led the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan’s development in coordination with local government and transportation operating partners throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. Additional coordination with other interested parties, including other transportation partners, community members, agencies, businesses, and government entities continued throughout the plan’s two-year schedule.
- Background Data & Existing Conditions (Spring 2024 – Summer 2024) – Assessed how we use the existing transportation system, identification of the trends that influenced our transportation decisions, and evaluation of which future trends could influence the continued growth of our transportation network.
- Goals & Objectives (Spring 2024 – Summer 2024) – Established goals and objectives for the future growth of the transportation system.
- Technical Analysis, Needs Assessment, and Investment Scenario Planning (Summer 2024 – Spring 2025) – Evaluated multimodal transportation system needs throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. Compared alternative investment scenarios that address the identified needs, align with the 2050 Plan goals and objectives, and enhance the transportation system.
- Cost Feasible Plan Development (Winter 2024 – Fall 2025) – Developed a cost-feasible prioritized list of projects to address the transportation needs of the region.
- Plan Adoption & Implementation (Winter 2025) – The 2050 Plan is on track for adoption Dec. 10. The cost feasible plan implementation will take place over the coming decades.
